Mrs. Davis, Holz Principal

Lynn Davis, Principal

I am the principal of Holz Elementary. I was a teacher for ten years, a reading specialist for 3 years and a Curriculum and Instruction Coordinator for two I have three adult children and one grandchild. I love reading and cats! The best part about being a principal is getting to know each of my students' and their families. I am blessed to have this wonderful and rewarding job!

Becca Thomas

Rebecca Thomas, Counselor

Hello my name is Rebecca Thomas and I have the privilege of being the new school counselor at Holz Elementary! I live here in Charleston with my husband, our two children, and our 3 pups. I received my undergraduate degree and masters degree from Marshall University, Go Herd! My daughter will actually be a daughter of Marshall this fall. This will be my 5th year with KCS and 3rd as a school counselor. I am excited to become a member of the team here at Holz.

Danita Nellhais

Danita Nellhais, School Nurse

Hello from Nurse Danita!
I am a Kanawha County School Nurse and so happy to be at Holz! My two daughters are Holz Alumni so I have been involved in this community for a long time.
I graduated from WVU and had the opportunity to be a traveling school nurse for six years- loved seeing the country and working in various ICU settings. We have lived in Morgantown, Pittsburgh and Gilford, NH and now call Charleston home.❤
I love anything outdoors - hiking, biking, paddle boarding and yoga, and am so grateful we live in a state that has it all at our fingertips.
Looking forward to seeing everyone again!

Sarah Ewing, Pre K/ Special Needs

 My name is Sarah Ewing. I have been teaching Pre-K for 8 years. I have 2 kids named Parker and Hallie. I love animals, traveling, cooking and spending time with my family.

Trish Johnson

Trish Summerfield-Johnson, Pre K 

 Welcome to Holz Elementary! I am Trish Summerfield-Johnson (Ms. Trish), and I teach preschool. I live in South Hills, here in Charleston with my husband and my new puppy!! I have to adult children (college) that live with us at times. I love to travel (especially to the beach) and work in my flowers. As a preschool teacher I am always trying to come up with hands-on creations to help visual and audio learning go hand in hand.

Angela C.

Angela Chenoweth, Pre K Aide

I’ve lived in Charleston for 30 years. I attended Glenville State College after high school. I’ve been married to Jamie for 29 years and we have a son Robbie who attended Holz and he’s 25 now and also lives in Charleston. I was a parent volunteer at Holz and loved the staff and students here. I started substituting as a teacher assistant at Holz 20 years ago and have loved Being part of the Holz family. My favorite thing to do is travel. I get to travel with my husband in the summer and my favorite destination is SanDiego, CA. I look forward to meeting and working with a new group of Preschoolers this year.

Wendy Fisher

Wendy Fisher, Kindergarten

My name is Wendy Fisher. I was born in New Orleans, LA. I graduated from Marshall University (Go Herd!) with both my undergraduate and master’s degree. I have been a kindergarten teacher at Holz since 1995. I love teaching kindergarten because it is so much fun and I get the privilege to watch so many children learn and grow.I enjoy traveling, being pool-side, dining out and spending time with family and friends. I am looking forward to a year of learning, fun, and adventures in kindergarten!

Mindy Lewis

Mindy Lewis, Kindergarten

Hello, my name is Mindy Lewis and I am a kindergarten teacher. I have been teaching since 2011 and I have been at Holz Elementary since 2014. I have my masters in Elementary Education: Instructional Processes and Strategies from Marshall University. I am married and have one daughter. In my spare time, I like to to spend time outside playing with my daughter and I love to read.  

Patra Collins

Patra Collins, Kindergarten Aide

Hi! I’m Mrs Collins. I am a Kindergarten Aide and I work with Mrs Lewis. I have been employed by Kan County Schools for 24 years and This will be my 11th year at Holz. I am married and I have two adult children. I also have 2 granddaughters that go to school in Kan Co. I love to read, craft, sew and shop. I’m looking forward to meeting my new class. I hope all of our Holz family is doing well! 

Tammy Hovis

Tammy Hovis, 2nd Grade

The 2020-21 school year will be my 25th year as a teacher at Holz Elementary.  I feel blessed to have become friends with so many families in our community.  By this time I am teaching children of former students. I am “Gigi” to four grandsons and one granddaughter.  “Charlie”, my ten-year-old King Charles Cavalier, lovesto help me prepare for online learning by listening to my read-aloud practice.  I enjoy hand sewing appliqué, photography, quilting and making scrapbooks of family times and celebrations.  

C Mullins

Christi Mullins, 3rd Grade

My name is Christi Mullins. I started teaching in 1996. I taught two years in Richmond, VA. We then moved to Charleston.  I taught 5 years at Piedmond Elementary, and then 1 year as Demonstration Teacher for KCS.  I then stayed home for 13 years to raise my sons.  I came back to Holz in 2016 in 5th grade for the last six weeks of school.  This is my fourth year teaching third grade at Holz, and will be my twelve year teaching overall.  I have been married for 21 years, and we have two sons.  I love doing Yoga, spending time at our river house. my two cats and teaching third grade!  

Katie Pulliam

Katie Pulliam, 3rd Grade Teacher

I am Ms. Pulliam. I am the new 3rd grade teacher! This will be my third year teaching. I have taught 4th and 5th grade. I graduated in 2014 from Wheeling Jesuit University. I do not have any pets or kids of my own, but I have a two and a half year old niece that I adore named Nina. I like to spend my free time hanging out with my friends and family, but I also enjoy reading a good book or watching Netflix. I am SO excited to be a part of the Holz family this year! I look forward to getting to know some new faces!

Emily Sable

Emily Sable, 4th Grade

Hi, I'm Mrs. Sable and I teach 4th Grade! I feel so lucky to work at Holz. It is the BEST school! This year will be my 7th year teaching. This will be my second year teaching 4th grade. Before I taught 4th grade, I taught 3rd grade for five years. I have both a M.A and B.A. in Elementary Education from WVU (Let's Go Mountaineers!) I am one of the coaches for the Holz Robotics Team. My favorite subject to teach is Math. In my free time I like to exercise, read, cook, and spend time with my family. My husband's name is Justin, and we have a golden retriever named Savannah. I know how to play the oboe and guitar, and I sing in my church's choir. I am looking forward to another great year at Holz! 

Jennifer Weaver

Jennifer Weaver, 4th Grade

 Hi, my name is Jennifer Weaver. My students call me Mrs. Weaver.  My husband, Bob, and I have 4 grown children, Robby, Drew, Molly and Katie. This November, Drew and his wife, Jordan, will make me a grandmother (Gigi) for the first time!  We also have two dogs that we rescued five years ago named Manny and Maverick.  They are brothers from the same litter and greatly resemble black labs.  This will be my 10th year teaching 4th grade at Holz Elementary. I enjoy all subjects, but my favorite subjects are math, writing, and reading! I get excited when my students solve math problems in a unique way and share them with the class.  I also get excited when my students share their writing and stories with us.  My class is a community where we nurture and protect, and we prioritize kindness and helpfulness.  In my spare time, I love to be outside, especially at our cabin on the Greenbrier River.  We hike, kayak, canoe, and fish. Honestly though, the only fish I have ever caught was one that jumped into my canoe while I was paddling and bounced off my arm and flopped around in the canoe. I’m happy to say that the fish got away.

Maria K.

Maria Klingshirn, 5th Grade

Hello, students and parents! I am Miss Klingshirn, and I teach fifth grade. This will be my second year teaching at Holz, but it is my fifth year teaching overall. I started my teaching career in Wirt County. I am originally from Ohio, but I have lived in West Virginia since I was 9 years old. I will be 28 in December, and I'm engaged to my wonderful fiancé, Luke. I love to be outdoors, whether it's spending time hiking or just traveling around to different places. Some of my other favorite hobbies are playing any sort of board game or card game, reading, riding my bike, and drawing/painting. Also, Harry Potter is my absolute favorite book/movie series of all time! We're going to be starting a very different school year at Holz, but I am very excited to learn and grow and to meet my new students.

Kristi Walters, 5th Grade

Hello Fifth Grade!  I am so excited to be your teacher for the 2020-2021 school year.  This upcoming year is my tenth year of teaching.  I currently have a Bachelor's Degree in PK-6th grade and I am certified to teach Gifted Instruction.  I also recently earned a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership for Levels PK-Adult.  Our year is going to be filled with lots of excitement and learning!  We are going to make this the BEST YEAR EVER!

Sherri Hanson-Humphrey, Gifted

Lead Teacher of Gifted Kanawha County Schools Marshall University-Master’s Degree Gifted Education. Married to Wayne Humphrey. Two sons and two grandchildren. Enjoys logic puzzles and spending time with family.

K Krump

Katrina Crump, Speech Therapist

I am Katrina Crump, the speech therapist at Holz. I grew up in Glen Dale, WV and moved to Charleston in 1993.  I began the Speech Pathology and Audiology program at West Liberty State College and in conjunction with WVU, received my Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from WVU. I also received my Master of Science degree in Speech Pathology from WVU. I am nationally certified and hold my Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Pathology with ASHA. I am beginning my 31st year as a speech therapist for the WVDE. I have three grown children and became a Nana in July.  We also rescued and adopted a kitten from our car engine this summer.

Nancy Boggs, Special Education

I have been a special education teacher here at Holz for the last 7 years.I previously taught in various counties in West Virginia and Maryland. I enjoy playing piano, reading, and visiting my 91 year old mother in Morgantown.

Lori Gibson

Lori Gibson, Autism Mentor

Hi everyone, my name is Lori Gibson and I am the Autism Mentor for Holz Elem. I have been at Holz for three years in the multi-level special needs class. I am married with three children and a grandson. My hobbies are kayaking, and camping with my family. I love being part of the Holz family. After school I do tutoring to help our children be all they can be. Welcome to Holz. You will be so gladyou chose us to educate your children.


Stacy Santen, Resource Teacher

My name is Stacy Santen and I am the Resource teacher at Holz.  This is my 4th year and I love my Holz family!  I was born and raised in Texas and graduated from TCU with my bachelor's and master's degrees in Special Education.  I am married to Matt and we have 4 kids.  I love teaching, but I also love swimming, reading, biking, going on vacation and spending time with my family and my church family.  I am looking forward to a new and exciting school year!

Joy Redmond, Reading Interventionist

Hi! I am Joy Redmond, Reading Interventionist. I am grateful for the opportunity to work within the amazing Holz community! I have a Bachelor of Science in Communication from Ohio University, a Master of Education degree from Xavier University, and a Reading Endorsement from Marshall University. During my teaching career, I've had the pleasure of working as a reading interventionist, math interventionist, classroom teacher, and technologist. When not working, I enjoy spending time with my two wild ladies (loving nickname for my amazing daughters), crafting, learning, and laughing. 

Andrea pennington

Andrea Pennington, Technology Specialist

Hello! I am so excited to be in this new position at Holz as the Technology Specialist.  I have been substitute teaching at Holz the past two years, and I absolutely love the school and students.  I have a B.A in Advertising from the school of Journalism at Marshall University, and an M.B.A from WV Wesleyan College.  I live in Fort Hill with my husband, three children, and one Boston Terrier puppy named "Winnie Belle."  I teach group fitness, love to dance, and being active is a big part of my life.  I am a former track athlete from Marshall University and my husband played football at WVU.  He is now the head football coach at WV State.  Between our love of sports and our three children, we love being active in the Charleston Community.  I look forward to a great year at Holz!
